About

About the institute

Making the transition add up.

Transition Economics Institute is an international energy research institute operating since 2024. We publish research on energy markets and the economics of transition: whether tariffs recover cost, whether capacity payments match demand, whether LNG contracts clear in the destinations that matter, and whether planning tools reflect the load that is actually arriving on the system.

The institute is based in Kalispell, Montana, with a Niagara Falls office and satellite offices in Toronto, Islamabad, and Washington, DC. That footprint supports work on Pakistan, the United States, and global energy markets without treating any one region as a side note.

Mandate

What we examine

Energy transitions are financial and operational problems as much as they are engineering problems. We write for readers who need the cash-flow and contract view: circular debt as a flow machine rather than a mystery stockpile; interconnection queues as binding constraints on load and generation; LNG destination swings as price and security questions; coal trade and critical minerals as the materials backbone of the transition.

Pakistan work follows power-sector reform, gas allocation, tariff design, and planning scenarios. United States work follows wholesale markets, large loads, interconnection reform, transmission investment, and federal and state regulation. Global work follows oil and gas balances, LNG trade, shipping chokepoints, and related Middle East energy developments that move prices and flows.
