ERCOT's Generation Queue Reaches 454 GW, With Batteries the Largest Fuel
ERCOT's monthly operational overview for September, published on 16 October, lists 1,874 active generation interconnection requests totalling 453,782 MW as of 30 September. Another 175 projects were classed as inactive, up from 168 in August.
By fuel, the active queue holds 162,580 MW of batteries, 155,123 MW of solar, 81,034 MW of gas and 49,746 MW of wind. Batteries are 35.8% of the total and gas 17.9%.
ERCOT estimates battery energy at about 390 GWh for the active storage projects. Against roughly 163 GW, that implies an average duration of 2.4 hours by our calculation. Most of the queue is still sized for evening peaks, not for multi-hour shortfalls.
Gas interest has grown. ERCOT told its board in September that gas requests were up 23% since June to about 80 GW.
Transmission is the other number in the report. ERCOT was reviewing proposed projects worth $22.7 billion, and projects endorsed so far in 2026 total $12.4 billion.
The large-load queue is tracked separately and is not part of these figures.
