Ghana's ECG Put GH₵13 Billion Through the Cash Waterfall in Seven Months, 39% More Than a Year Earlier

The Electricity Company of Ghana declared GH₵13.03 billion to the Cash Waterfall Mechanism in the January–July 2026 payment months, 38.6% more than a year earlier, according to PURC's monthly validation reports. Monthly declarations have stayed between GH₵1.67 billion and GH₵1.93 billion since December 2025, and every report from February 2025 shows the Level A producers paid in full.

By TEI's tally of the nineteen reports, Level A took 38.1% of the extra cash. Independent power producers received US$533.3 million over the seven months against US$323.7 million a year earlier, a 64.7% rise, while the cedi value rose less because the rate used in the model fell from about 15.4 to the dollar in early 2025 to near 11. ECG's own retention grew by GH₵860.7 million, and a Level B line labelled "Fuel Levy", absent before September 2025, received GH₵777.1 million.

PURC's 2026–2030 tariff order sets ECG's 2026 revenue requirement at GH₵34.38 billion. The months that settle January–May 2026 invoices averaged 66% of the monthly equivalent. The July 2026 report is the latest PURC has posted.
